چکیده
Until now, Demodex rosus has been only recorded in the Czech Republic; however, as many as 81 specimens of this species have been observed in 7 yellow-necked field mice collected from Gdansk Pomerania, Poland (prevalence 35%, mean intensity 11.6). This is the first observation of that species in Poland. In Polish fauna, Apodemus flavicollis proved to be a new host of mites belonging to Demodecidae. All specimens of D. rosus have been found in the mouse oral cavity.

Occurrence of demodex spp. (Acari, Demodecidae) in the striped field mouse Apodemus agrarius (Rodentia, Muridae) in Poland.
The hair follicle mites (Acari, Demodecidae) are obligatory and specific parasites of mammals, important in human and veterinary medicine. The family is represented by more than 100 species worldwide and 30 in Poland, therein 11 species (and 3 subspecies) were discovered from 10 species of native rodents. Fifty two striped field mice Apodemus agrarius from eastern Pomerania (Poland) were examin...
متن کاملHabitat-specific shaping of proliferation and neuronal differentiation in adult hippocampal neurogenesis of wild rodents
Daily life of wild mammals is characterized by a multitude of attractive and aversive stimuli. The hippocampus processes complex polymodal information associated with such stimuli and mediates adequate behavioral responses. How newly generated hippocampal neurons in wild animals contribute to hippocampal function is still a subject of debate. Here, we test the relationship between adult hippoca...
متن کاملOwl Pellet Avoidance in Yellow-necked Mice Apodemus Flavicollis and House Mice Mus Musculus
Owls feed mainly on rodents, which may harbour a diverse set of pathogen species. Their pellets often contain undigested body parts of the prey that may also contain viable rodent pathogens. Therefore, avoiding pellets may serve to reduce pathogen transmission in rodents. Alternatively, rodents may also avoid pellets as a form of predator avoidance, since pellets are likely to indicate owl pres...
متن کاملA Karyological Study of Some Murid Rodents (Rodentia: Muridae) of Iran
Family Muridae consists of eight genera and 28 species in Iran. This family shows notable variability of karyological features. In this study, karyological data derived from 11 species of 7 genera of this family of Iran are presented and compared with previously published accounts. The included species were: Mus musculus musculus from Gonbad (2n=40, FN=40) and Birjand (2n=40, FN=38), Rattus nor...
متن کاملHantavirus in new geographic regions, Sweden
In Sweden, human cases of Puumala hantavirus (PUUV) infections are reported from the northern endemic regions. We found hantavirus-specific antibodies in yellow-necked mice (Apodemus flavicollis) trapped in human dwellings in the surroundings of the cities of Uppsala and Stockholm, which are situated far south from the traditional endemic areas of PUUV. Because the yellow-necked mouse is the mo...
